Tumor microenvironment & Stem cells
This research program is a focus of the Georg-Speyer-Haus and interdisciplinary LOEWE Center for Cell and Gene Therapy. This program aims to 1) identify and target mechanisms of interaction between tumors and their microenvironment and 2) elucidate and hit the molecular pathways involved in the generation and function of cancer stem cells. Cancer stem cell biology is investigated in particular in the hematopoietic system and the gastrointestinal tract, including studies on the vascular niche for cancer stem cells.
