Dr. Christine Koch’s research focuses on clinical research in gastrointestinal tumors in particular on Microsatellite instability (MSI)-high / mismatch-repair deficient (dMMR) gastrointestinal adenocarcinomas, which are highly susceptible to treatment with anti-PD1-1 or anti-CTLA4 antibodies, so-called immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI). During her MSNZ project, Dr. Koch aims to develop a treatment protocol for organ-preserving treatment with ICI of patients with MSI-high/dMMR rectal cancer. Additionally, she will further analyze peripheral blood and tissue to research the role of myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSC) and immunosuppressive cytokine patterns in resistance to ICI treatment.
