Translational Neuroimaging / Wenger Lab

The Translational Neuroimaging group focuses on applying advanced MRI methods to improve diagnosis, therapy monitoring, and patient care in (brain) tumors. The group‘s aim is to develop non-invasive biomarkers that allow precise tumor characterization, provide early indicators of treatment response or failure, and support the selection of innovative therapeutic strategies. Together with local and international collaborators – among others the Biomolecular Magnetic Resonance Center (BMRZ) at Goethe University, Johns Hopkins University (Baltimore, USA), and the University of Minnesota (USA) – the group establishes new quantitative and MR spectroscopic protocols in Frankfurt and conducts ex vivo validations to complement in vivo measurements. A central success factor is the interdisciplinary research approach, bringing together expertise from medicine, physics, chemistry, and data science. This close collaboration enables the translation of complex biophysical methods into clinical application and demonstrates the added value of imaging-based biomarkers in oncological care. Experiments are conducted at the Cooperative Brain Imaging Center Frankfurt and the Institute of Neuroradiology at University Hospital Frankfurt.
