Uttinger / Wiegering Lab

Dr. Konstantin Uttinger uses big data and secondary data analyses to investigate the real-world care of surgically treated entities, analyzing both benign and malignant diseases. With the overarching goal of identifying and ultimately improving care shortages, discrepancies, and underprovision – particularly, though not exclusively, stratified by age, region, and sex – it is first necessary to establish benchmarking. In a second step, options for action can then be evaluated.

The lab has already published extensively on the volume–outcome effect, i.e., the relationship between the number of patients treated per institution and the treatment outcome. In addition, surrogate parameters for guideline compliance have been analyzed. Another temporary focus was the analysis of underprovision during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic.
