Bioinformatics Workshop on RNA-seq Data Analysis
Quantifying, exploring, modeling and interpreting gene expression data
When: June 30, 2023, 2:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Where: University Hospital Frankfurt, Building 9, Room 112
Instructor: Dr. Federico Marini, Deputy Head of the Statistical Genomics and Bioinformatics Division, IMBEI, Mainz
On the initiative of the YoungOnc Community of the MSNZ, FCI and DKTK, we jointly offer a bioinformatics workshop on RNA-seq data analysis aimed at advanced PhD students, postdocs and clinician scientists. Ideally, you should already have RNA-Seq data available in your project that you would like to analyze, or have a specific project involving RNA-Sequencing planned as part of your own research.
The workshop consists of a lecture part covering the theoretical background of NGS-based RNA-sequencing, a step-by-step guide how to derive at a gene expression matrix and data exploration using iSEEE. The lecture is followed by a hands-on part where you will explore either your own or a prepared data set with expert guidance from experienced bioinformaticians. All analyses shown in the course will be performed using the open source tool R on your own device. Basic experience with the R programming language is strongly recommended as the course will not cover basic skills.
After the workshop, there will be an opportunity for networking with the YoungOnc and other workshop participants.
Please note that places are limited and an application is therefore required!
You can use this quiz to self-assess your skill level. It also provides recommendations for resources if you want to prepare and refresh your knowledge before participating in the workshop.
Please submit your application consisting of a short letter of motivation to msnz@kgu.de by May 15, 2023. Together with the instructor, we will carefully review all applications and, if capacity limits are reached, select the participants who will benefit most from attending. You will be informed by the end of May whether your application has been accepted.
